Playground at Bingham Creek Regional Park in South Jordan, designed by Think Architecture with Perigee Consulting civil engineering and grading support.

Strong projects are built through collaboration, trust, and a shared understanding of how each discipline contributes to the whole. For more than a decade, Perigee Consulting and Think Architecture have partnered to deliver projects that successfully balance technical complexity with design intent.

A Partnership Rooted in Alignment

Perigee Consulting is a Utah-based civil and structural engineering and surveying firm known for its responsive approach and practical problem-solving. The firm’s team brings deep technical expertise to complex sites while remaining collaborative and adaptable throughout the design process.

That mindset aligns naturally with Think Architecture. Since beginning their partnership in 2013, the two firms have collaborated on approximately 20 projects. Over time, this consistency has created a shared workflow and a strong understanding of how engineering constraints and design vision can work together rather than in conflict.

Transforming a Challenging Site

A clear example of this collaboration is Bingham Creek Regional Park in South Jordan. Designed as the largest park in the Salt Lake County system, the project serves as a regional destination and a central park for the southwest valley.

The site posed significant challenges. Formerly known as the Welby Pit, the land had been used as a gravel quarry, landfill, and storage site. Reclaiming 160 acres for public use required extensive earthwork, including the movement of more than 700,000 cubic yards of soil.

Think Architecture led the overall planning and design vision for the park, while Perigee addressed the civil engineering demands of large-scale grading and site transformation. Close coordination between the teams ensured that grading solutions supported the landscape design and overall user experience. Achieving that balance required trust, experience, and consistent communication throughout the process.

Engineering in Service of Design

Through its work with Think Architecture, Perigee has continued to refine its ability to align civil engineering solutions with landscape form and function. This integration is especially critical on projects where grading and landform shape how a space is experienced.

Think Architecture has noted that Perigee is one of the few engineering teams capable of delivering both small- and large-scale grading projects while maintaining the designer’s intent. The firm’s quick response times and willingness to think creatively have further strengthened the partnership.

Looking Ahead

As projects grow more complex and expectations continue to rise, integrated partnerships will remain essential. By combining technical expertise with design leadership from the outset, Perigee Consulting and Think Architecture are well-positioned to meet future challenges and deliver successful outcomes together.
