SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH — Think Architecture, a multidisciplinary architecture and design firm serving clients across Utah and 19 other U.S. states, announced that a residential pool project completed by its landscape architecture team has been featured in Utah Style & Design magazine’s “Cool Pools” article.
The project, located in the historic Old Town district of Park City, presented a design challenge uncommon even by mountain-community standards. The district’s narrow lots and strict historic preservation guidelines leave little to no room for a full outdoor living space, let alone one incorporating both fire and water features. But the client requested exactly that: a complete outdoor living experience on a site with almost no room to spare.
To meet the site’s constraints, Think Architecture positioned the pool directly against the property line on two sides, with mechanical equipment housed in a crawlspace beneath the residence to preserve the visual integrity of the space. A masonry wall matched to the home’s façade was designed to serve three functions simultaneously: enclosing the site from surrounding properties, housing the fire and water features, and creating a sense of privacy that the lot’s size would not otherwise allow.
The fire feature incorporates a half-inch glass panel that maintains an unobstructed flame while reducing ambient noise, paired with a stainless steel edge selected for long-term durability in Utah’s mountain climate. Stone pathways and retaining walls integrate the pool area with the surrounding hillside, connecting the hardscape to the broader property rather than treating it as an isolated feature.
The pool was constructed in partnership with Hess Construction LLC, New Concepts Glass, and Signature Pools. Think Architecture served as both architect and landscape architect on the project.
