Riverton City Park: Family Fun and Natural Beauty

Think Architecture is proud to have played an integral role in the recent renovation and continued updates of the beloved Riverton City Park. This 31-acre park, once a well-used and loved baseball park, has been transformed into an incredible space where people can gather for individual recreation, weekend activities, and community celebrations.

To complete the park’s redesign, Think Architecture centered all designs around the iconic Old Dome Meeting Hall. Finished in 2015, the renovation of Riverton City Park featured a design by Think Architecture that pays homage to Riverton’s heritage. The new building, inspired by the Old Dome Church completed in 1908 and demolished decades later, reflects the historical significance of the original structure.

Old Dome Meeting Hall is primarily used as an art gallery and an event space. While the renovation focused on adding more passive recreational uses instead of active sports activities, Think Architecture was also integral in renovating the rodeo arena to add more seating, restrooms, and concession space.

Incorporating Useful Design Elements to a Well-Loved Park

Throughout the entire park design and renovation stage, Think Architecture was integral in preparing concept plans that were shown to the city, communicating with city leaders to include all the program elements the city desired.

Given Riverton City Park’s central role in the community, city leaders and architects sought to enhance the beloved space by integrating practical design elements into the existing park. Architects completed the park’s landscape with a central recreation area and plenty of trees to provide much-needed shade. A water feature was added to the front of the Old Dome Meeting Hall, drawing inspiration from the old farming community that once relied heavily on the water from the Jordan River.

The park renovation continues to be a success. The rodeo renovation improved the flow of pedestrians around the area and provided additional bathrooms and concession space to make attendees more comfortable. In addition, Think Architecture has continued to assist with the park renovation by installing four additional pickleball courts.
