At Think Architecture, we value the unique paths and perspectives that bring new talent to our team. This week, we’re excited to introduce Mikayla Austin, a dedicated BIM Operator whose journey reflects her passion for collaboration, innovation, and sustainable design.
A Journey Fueled by Connection
As a proud Utah native, Mikayla pursued her architectural education with determination, earning an associate’s degree in architecture from Salt Lake Community College before transferring to the University of Utah to complete her Bachelor of Architecture degree. Although she was initially nervous about joining a new program, Mikayla quickly found her footing—and made a meaningful connection with Savannah Pike, a fellow student.
“Collaborating with Savannah on projects at the U of U left me in awe of her knowledge and skills,” Mikayla recalls. “I learned that she had gained valuable experience working at Think Architecture. When a position opened at Think, I didn’t hesitate to apply.”
The chance to work alongside Savannah and the respected professionals at Think Architecture played a significant role in Mikayla’s decision to join the firm.
Three Pillars of Inspiration: Experience, Collaboration, and Innovation
Mikayla’s excitement for her role at Think Architecture stems from three key drivers: Experience, Collaboration, and Innovation.
- Experience: Mikayla admired Think’s impressive portfolio of past and ongoing projects, as well as the firm’s emphasis on fostering growth among its team members.
- Collaboration: A strong advocate for teamwork, Mikayla values Think Architecture’s commitment to building relationships and creating a culture where collaboration thrives.
- Innovation: Inspired by Think’s creative and forward-thinking design standards, Mikayla sees her role as an opportunity to contribute to impactful and innovative solutions.
A Vision of Sustainability
Mikayla is deeply passionate about the role architecture can play in addressing global challenges like climate change. When asked what expertise she’d choose to master instantly, her answer was clear: sustainable technologies.
“My interest in architecture is rooted in the belief that it can help tackle climate change,” she explains. “Mastering sustainable technologies would enable me to design eco-friendly, energy-efficient buildings that minimize environmental impact while enhancing health and well-being.”
Life Beyond Work
Outside the office, Mikayla is an avid adventurer who cherishes time spent in the mountains and on the road with her two dogs. “Some of my fondest memories are carving through fresh powder on my snowboard or road-tripping across the country, stopping wherever our hearts—and four legs—desired,” she says.
And when it comes to choosing between cats and dogs? “Dogs, definitely dogs!” she shares with a smile.
Looking Ahead
Mikayla’s dedication to innovation, sustainability, and teamwork makes her a valuable addition to the Think Architecture team. We’re excited to see how her expertise and vision will shape the future of our projects and our firm.
