Julio Caceres, Architectural Associate at Think Architecture, grew up surrounded by construction. His father and grandfather worked as concrete and soils laboratory technicians, and Julio often accompanied them on the job. Those early experiences sparked his interest in following a similar path.

Today, Julio models and produces construction documents using REVIT Architecture, bringing decades of BIM experience to each project. His journey with digital design began in school, when he was among the first students to produce a graduation project plan set entirely in BIM. Years later, his expertise continues to add precision and polish to every design.

Working at Think Architecture

For Julio, teamwork is about responsibility and trust, a core part of our architectural design process. “When everyone does their part, everything comes smoothly together,” he says. He values the respect and consideration of the leadership team, and in return, is driven to deliver his best work. Collaboration is what he enjoys most about Think’s culture:

“I don’t see competitiveness, but a lot of collaboration. I’ve learned from all my coworkers and grown from working with them.”

Current Projects and Tools

Julio has played a key role on the Velvaere Homes project, helping construction management coordinate between owners, consultants, and builders. By using BIM tools such as AutoCAD and REVIT, he helps streamline complex coordination challenges. He also relies on Zoom, Teams, and Bluebeam to simplify communication across distances, noting that this has dramatically changed the pace of the industry. “In the past, this process was too slow,” he says.

Walking the site is his favorite part of Velvaere. “It is always a good experience to go over there and see how fast it is progressing.” Outside the firm, Julio has long been inspired by the LDS Temple at Temple Square, a project he has admired from the beginning.

On Training, Templates, and Design

Julio’s process begins with Think’s professional Revit templates, which evolve into customized designs through architectural programming and collaborative cloud-based modeling. “We are routinely trained,” he explains, which helps ensure each project is carried through from concept to construction with consistency and excellence.

He encourages others to embrace BIM tools as well. “To those still thinking about learning Revit or other BIM software, I would say, ‘What are you waiting for?’ It may feel intimidating at first, but the effort brings a lot of satisfaction.”

Beyond Architecture

If he weren’t an architect, Julio thinks he might be a musician. Not a singer, though, “It would scare you to hear me sing,” he says with humor. He would be a composer, and it’s still on his bucket list to pursue composition.

He also loves writing and can see himself as a published author someday.
