Corey’s passion for architecture took root at an early age, driven by his love for design and creativity. “This goes pretty far back—I’ve always enjoyed designing buildings and constructing with toys like Lego,” he reflects. This early fascination grew into a lifelong pursuit of crafting spaces that harmonize beauty and functionality, defining his career as an architect.

Innovating Through Design and Overcoming Challenges

Corey thrives on designing unique spaces tailored to each client’s vision. His extensive expertise in luxury resort and custom home projects allows him to exceed expectations, delivering innovative designs that are both striking and meticulously executed.

Corey emphasizes the importance of strong client partnerships—built on friendship, trust, communication, and a shared vision. These relationships allow him to deliver designs that exceed expectations while providing innovative solutions.

A notable example of his approach is a private residence being built on a site once considered unbuildable. After a couple of years of planning and permitting, the project is now under construction. “It’s going to be a wonderful project for a very patient and visionary client,” he reflects, highlighting the importance of persistence and creativity in overcoming obstacles.

Sources of Influence and Creative Vision

Corey draws inspiration from both architecture and art. He continuously studies the modern movement and enjoys the works of architects like Louis Kahn and Tom Kundig for their unique approaches to design. Outside of architecture, Corey is influenced by Impressionist painters—Monet, Van Gogh, and Seurat—and the vast experiences travel provides. “There is just so much in the world to see and experience,” he says, reflecting on how these experiences shape his design perspective.

One of Corey’s favorite buildings in Utah is Abravanel Hall in Salt Lake City. “Even at its age, I still enjoy visiting it for performances,” he shares, admiring its timeless design.

Engaging with Utah’s Landscape

As a Utah native, Corey has witnessed firsthand the state’s architectural evolution. He finds it exciting to see the growth and shift toward more modern design over the past decade.

Corey highlights the importance of engaging with Utah’s diverse landscape and environment. “Each site is unique and offers very different opportunities and challenges,” he explains. His designs address these site-specific factors while ensuring that each project is both functional and in tune with its surroundings.

Looking Ahead: The Future of Architecture

Corey sees exciting opportunities for architecture’s future, particularly with the integration of technology into design and construction. “The integration of technology will be both exciting and challenging,” he notes, recognizing its potential to transform how spaces are created and experienced.

At Think Architecture, Corey’s leadership and commitment to client satisfaction continue to drive the firm’s success. By blending creativity with practical solutions, he ensures each project fulfills client expectations and contributes to the ongoing transformation of Utah’s architectural landscape.
